Featured Keynote: Victoria Nolan
Lights Out, Now What?
When Victoria was faced with the moral dilemma of having a child or going blind she decided it was more important for her son to have a sibling than to save her sight. He got a little sister, and his mom went blind.

“If I could live my life again with sight, I wouldn’t choose it.”

Victoria describes how challenges are opportunities and how a simple change in how you “look” at things can turn your life around.

“The most important characteristic is grit.”

This turn around led Victoria to the World’s Stage. She represented Canada in the sport of rowing in Beijing, London and Rio and broke the world record in 2010.

“You have to learn how to lose to learn how to win.”

Using the lessons, she learned coping with blindness and competing on Team Canada Victoria shares her secrets to reaching her goals, persevering in the face of adversity and using disappointments to propel you to victory.

“That is how I know there is no limit to what you can achieve. The only limit is the fear you create for yourself.”

The numbers are actually not improving.
Join Corinne Sharp, President of Sharp Perspective and Executive Board member of The WIT Network, for an interactive discussion on where gender bias begins and how it is still prevalent from home to the office. Hear the real-life stories and experiences that many women and men face. By the way, this isn’t a women’s problem. Women don’t need to be fixed or only lean in. It is a combined opportunity for parents, educators, government and business leaders.
Businesses who have actively and purposefully focused on diversity, inclusion and equality have better financial results, employee retention and organizational health results. Can we put even more STEM in the school system? How can you embrace WIT groups WIT Groups that are extremely important and need to be fostered, supported, funded and sponsored? They need to be invited into the classroom and the board room to be role models, mentors, advocates and WIT leaders.

Best Practices in System Testing & QA for your Nonprofit
Limited Capacity full

Testing is extremely important in helping you verify the functionality and the usability of your solution.  Is this design acceptable for your users? Is the solution working as designed?  Is the solution doing something that it is not supposed to?  This is where having well defined requirements and user cases positively impacts the planning and effectiveness of testing.
Testing is just as important and can be even more complex and challenging than analysis and design.  In this session we will be providing guidance on how to ensure you are not missing any important detail when it comes to your solution. We will be going over areas such as:
  • Business Needs –successfully validating that the business requirements are fulfilled, verifying functionality and testing for usability
  • Key Elements such as User Stories – getting the right formula to create user stories based on current business processes
  • Common Mistakes and Best Practices
  • The importance of knowing your solution and understanding how this could positively affect the outcome of QA
